Company Name - Companies House Restrictions for LTD, LLP and PLC

If you consider setting up a Limited Company, Public Limited Company or a Limited Liability Partnership, the chosen name should:

  • End with Limited, ltd, Public Limited Compay, PLC, Limited Liability Partnership, LLP or any Welsh equivalent.
  • Not be offensive. For example, the name can't suggest a connection with her Majesty's Government or a devolved administration or a local authority or certain specified Public Authorities.
  • Not be identical or similar to an existing one.
  • Not include Sensitive Words or Expressions unless persmission has been obtained from the secretary of State.
  • Not include signs, punctuations, symbols which are not permitted.
